One of the very few recurring important Metroid character besides Samus (Kraid is too big), so he's the only logical 3rd Metroid rep. Zelda has Ganondorf, Mario has Bowser/Wario, Kirby has King Dedede/Meta Knight, and Starfox has Wolf, so why shouldn't Metroid not get Ridley?Ĩ. the main antagonist, like I mentioned earlier, he's the leader of the Space Pirates. Samus was a bounty hunter to defend people from the Space Pirates, this was because the Space Pirate leader, which is RIDLEY, killed both of her parents.ħ. He's very important to the Metroid series. For being so unique, he deserves a chance. You won't find much Nintendo characters like this. And apparently he's also quite intelligent. Known officially as the "Cunning God of Death", each of the games he's appeared in he has a terrifying presence, usually choking or dragging Samus onto a wall, his presence even caused Samus herself to have PTSD in Other M. They're are all familiar Nintendo characters with huge primary roles to their well known games and, more importantly, are representing games that have >not< been used in the SSB's series. The reason Megeman, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager were chosen was because they follow the rules. To ease the awkwardness, they had him play a role in the adventure mode before you could use him.ĭon't get me wrong, Ridley's cool! Yeah he's nice, but Metroid is already represented and it gets to a point where you might realize you're just using a recycled Bowser/Charizard. It's part of the reason why as fun as R.O.B was, it just didn't feel right having him in the game. There's little to no nostalgia so we feel weird with their appearance in the game. They're just some random unknown joe shmoes we have to ASSUME were in a Nintendo game because they're on the roster. Two different characters from two totally different games we love going at it, that's awesome! Who's the Ice Climbers? Who's Kid Icarus? Who's Ness? It's tough to make guys like these fit because for the most part no one has even heard of them before Melee or Brawl. New characters are hard to creatively create because we get to a point where we are adding people no one has ever heard of, so when you see the big guys like Mario and Link, we are happy and know these guys so it's cool to have Mario and Link fight each other. So if you keep adding more characters from an already represented game (like people all about the "mario character requests" for like Waluigi and whoever), then you might as well call the game "Mario Smash Bros and maybe some other guys"Ģ.

is about a fighting game with a roster full of Nintendo's biggest stars. There's two things to keep in mind when it comes to the charactersġ. I think Nintendo did a great job with their new cast, we know who they're and they were probably the last new characters the game could add without breaking some of the rules to a new character. What makes the process difficult is they only have so much room for new characters that they cant keep everyone (which is why we lost characters in Brawl like Mewtwo and Dr.
